Located on the cliff edge at South Avalon north of Sydney, the design of this family home provides wind protected private courts and decks for outdoor living that are stepped to maximise views.
The building is set down from the main road to shelter from traffic noise. Built into a massive stone base with floating copper roofs, it is clad in black stained timber boarding. The splayed plan reflects the site and is dissected by a parapet wall of gentle curving sandstone separating the carport, entry and study from the main house, and forming the main living room chimney. The sandstone clad lower level opens out to rolling gardens extending to the cliff edge. The central fireplace wall is inspired by the profile of Lion Island as one travels across Pittwater.
