This ‘Tasting House’ at Mullamuddy near Mudgee was designed for a boutique wine label, and included a wine sampling area, seating areas, office spaces and associated landscaping. The existing Australian homestead was to be transformed for the wine producer to give an atmospheric space to experience the wines, while enjoying the surrounding vineyard views from the wraparound verandah.
Our concept for the site was to explore movement and light by creating a journey from arrival. Firstly the guest passes through the arbor and is sheltered amongst the tree foliage, where the light is controlled and dappled. The visitor is then released into the light and greeted by the classic ‘white’ tasting house set amongst the green of the vineyard.
